Essential Functions: Knowledge of decontamination processes: Unloading collection carts; unloading and separating instruments. Good handling technique for sharp tipped instruments, cutting edges and movable parts; knowledge of washer/disinfector and Ultrasonic operations; compliance with OSHA standards regarding universal precautions (Personal Protective Equipment). Knowledge of hand piece maintenance equipment: follow manufacturer's recommendations on air driven and electric hand piece upkeep; follow aseptic Infection Control practices on maintaining clean carts and work stations. Knowledge of Dental Instrumentation: Assist in assembling of instrument cassettes, paying close attention to detail to assure accuracy and completeness of work; replacement of damaged and missing instruments; assist in packaging and wrapping; Knowledge of sterilization and loading techniques: heavy and light load combinations; loading carts safely into and from the sterilizers; reading and documenting biological data from every load; monitoring and documenting autoclave cycles; knowledge of standard procedures in the event of biological test failures/Bowie-Dick failures; prioritize cassettes that will be needed first for efficient turn-over times. Knowledge of sterile storage, transport and security: Unloading protocols from cart to shelf; monitor humidity levels in the storage area; instrument tracking protocols; competency in pick list management; matching kit level and type requirements for each dispensary; hand piece security/lock case cart protocols.
