Identify event opportunities. Strategize and plan events,
including new events and improving existing events. Work with
Publisher and other leaders to plan Business Journals events.
Coordinate all aspects of PSBJ events.
Budget and forecast event income, expenses and attendance
Negotiate best pricing with event vendors and sign contracts for
Select site, caterer, a/v and other vendors
Manage event department staff
Develop timelines for each event and choreograph event day
Determine and communicate staff and client responsibilities
Select and schedule event speaker/presentation and sponsor program
Script sponsor presentations and main program
Drive ticket sales through the online registration process and
oversee attendance lists
Develop strong relationships with vendors, i.e. hotels and other
event venues, caterers, audio visual companies.
Produce the highest quality events while maintaining expense
Provide excellent service, support and communication to event
Work closely with ad sales team to insure sponsor benefits and
event information is communicated well in advance of event
Work with in-house creative to prepare pre and post event
promotions through house ads, direct mail, broadcast fax and
Create and oversee scheduling and placement of promotional ads.
Assist with proofreading of all promotional material, advertising
and event program to maintain integrity and image of PSBJ
Prepare post-event analysis including bill approval, spreadsheet
summary of expenses, RSVP's, attendance list, and no-shows.
Keep publisher, ad director, audience director, news and
research department and others in the operation aware of workflow,
timelines and status of events and projects. Work collaboratively
and cooperatively with members of all other departments. Inform
reporters and others in the newsroom of event schedule.
The Events Director is an important "right hand" to the Publisher
and should be prepared to help the Publisher as needed with special
tasks and projects.
Strong project manager. Detail oriented, focused, resourceful,
collaborative, goal driven, skilled negotiator, customer-oriented,
multi-tasker. Good marketing instincts.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred
